The uptown Yolato shop does not have nearly the panache of the one on MacDougal street. However, it does have a unique feature: a wastebasket in front of the store which is shaped like a giant, multi-colored ice cream cone!
They were introducing a new product when I visited: soft serve frozen yogurt, which they so far produce only in a plain flavor which tastes similar to Pinkberry’s plain, tart yogurt. They have come up with a few interesting flavors for the yogurt gelato, too. Their “birthday cake” flavor ice cream tastes like the kind of strongly-flavored white frosting that comes on birthday cakes from a professional baker, and to convey a festive mood, has a few rainbow sprinkles thrown in for good measure. Menta is mint, and compares well with Chocolate Chip Mint Ice Cream (my favorite flavor!) but, alas, without any chocolate chips; and corn ice cream, which is a sweet yellow corn flavor, its serving tub adorned with cut-up corncobs. Though I have tasted a comparable corn ice cream while visiting Japan, I was very surprised to find it here! However, the shop employees tell me that it has been popular enough for them to have made two batches of it this week!
Wheelchair access: there is a gentle ramp at the front of the shop.
