Description: Ice Cream Shop Review: c. 2007 Laura Brose
Haagen-Dazs: Broadway
This is a very small shop with not much more than the counter. They offer smoothies and milkshakes and sundaes as well as cones. Their latest offering was a Banana Split Sundae in a clear plastic takeaway container.
The cone I was served was a common sugar cone, but the scoop of ice cream I was give on it was generous to the point of overflowing. I tried the Mayan Chocolate flavor: intensely chocolatey, the base ice cream was comparable in intense chocolate flavor and quality to Friendly's Forbidden Chocolate, the standard by which Michelle judges chocolate ice creams. (Ben & Jerry's has what must be an equivalent flavor, which they deemed "Chocolate Therapy".) However, the Mayan Chocolate flavor was made more intense by the inclusion of chocolate syrup within the body of the ice cream, and a hint of cinnamon, evocative of Mexican Hot Chocolate and similar ethnic sweets. I just count myself fortunate that it did not include Chili Peppers. Hopefully the Chili-and-Chocolate food fad is on its way out.
