<title>L&#39; Arte del Gelato 75 Seventh Avenue South locatio</title>
<description>new 75 Seventh Avenue South location (SE corner Barrow St.)
review from ComestiBlog:
http://www.comestiblog.com/weblog/2008/07/larte-del-gelato-looks-better-than-it-tastes.html
L&#39;Arte del Gelato Looks Better Than It Tastes

I usually pass L&#39;Arte del Gelato en route to Cones, which is just around the corner. Don&#39;t tell Raul D&#39;Aloisio, but I stopped short this time. (It won&#39;t happen again, Raul!)

Though small, L&#39;Arte del Gelato&#39;s West Village store is bright and inviting. The two-dozen varieties of gelati and sorbetti are displayed with iconic Flavors 1 adornments (e.g., slices of fruit, nuts, coffee beans, etc.) which enhance their visual appeal. The flavors are labeled in Italian, thus affording a good opportunity to thrill in the trill and flaunt one&#39;s pronunciation.

Unfortunately, the visual sensation here far exceeds the gustatory one. The sweetness of the flavors do not compare favorably with the refreshing tastes of Cones or Grom. The watermelon sorbetto was laden with sugar; the grapefruit was not much better. The intensely flavored passion fruit sorbetto was too sweet as well, but less cloying than the others. When I treat myself to sorbet on a warm summer&#39;s day, I&#39;d like something refreshing. In this case, however, I felt as though I needed a palate cleanser afterward.

With their high prices (my small cup cost $4.50), L&#39;Arte del Gelato ought to accept credit cards and offer more than a scanty two samples. Recent DOH sanitary violations at the Chelsea Market location further militate against the likelihood of my hasty return. The upshot: this art is better enjoyed with the eye than with the palate.

<title>Yoberry</title>
<description>Review of Yoberry c. 2008 by Laura Brose
Having opened at the beginning of July, this little shop serves both fro yo (in plain or green tea flavor, sadly, the mango was not available when I visited, though it is listed on the menu cards available for the taking on the countertop) and shave ice as well as the combination of the two.
While the few reviews which have appeared so far have speculated on whether NY&#39;s tiny yoberry shop is in any way affiliated with or violating the trademark of a "yoberry" shop which is based in Seattle and has a website of its own, or is simply http://nymag.com/daily/food/2008/06/yoberry_enters_froyo_fray_in_c.html] the latest "pretender" imitating the business model of Pinkberry, having actually visited, I would beg to differ, as some of what the shop has to offer is clearly aimed at an oriental customer base and/or the Chinese cuisine cognoscenti: some of the shaved ice confections feature sweet corn, as well as such exotica as grass jelly, cubed Agar Agar, and red beans. Their menu of drinks has not only standard-issue smoothies but some cold beverages similar to those which can be found in other shops on the surrounding streets of Chinatown, such as Iced Red Bean drink, Lychee Ice, and Longan Ice. While this shop imitates the style of Pinkberry to a certain extent, it is well worth visiting for what pinkberry _doesn&#39;t_ have.

<title>Tempo Restaurant and Tempo Presto</title>
<description>Review of Tempo Presto c. 2008 by Laura Brose
Tempo Presto is a "sister shop" to the Tempo Restaurant at 256 5th Avenue between Carroll &amp; Garfield. While the Tempo is described as a "Restaurant &amp; Wine Bar" and features a gourmet menu with hearty hot meat and vegetable dishes, a selection of desserts, including but not limited to sorbetto and gelato, their annex, Tempo Presto, at 254 5th Avenue, is a carry-out counter primarily offering salads and sandwiches, with a small interior space and a few tables of cafe seating, a quasi coffee shop. Tempo Presto offers several flavors of gelato and sorbetto at $3.50 for a small dish, which to their credit, they pile high and fill to overflowing when serving you. Tempo Presto is open 7 days a week 11am-9pm and is wheelchair accessible (there is a slight slope up to the door which is not automatic but if a Park Slope stroller mom can get in there, stroller and all, surely, you can, too.)</description>
